Old Rock Jail

The old Coosa County Jail, also called Old Rock Jail, in downtown Rockford, was completed 1842 and is virtually unaltered in its appearance. The building is the oldest remaining stone jail in the state and was used as a county jail until 1938. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974. The grave marker for Fred, the town dog and mascot who died in 2002, is located behind the building.
