Reece City

History

The first non-Indian settlers in the Little Wills Valley, where Reece City is now located, arrived in 1835. The first post office opened in October 1884, and the settlement was called Hill; in 1903, the name was changed to Reeceville after an early settler in the area. The community remained unincorporated until early 1956, when a group began a movement to incorporate the town. People in a six-mile area were polled about their interest in being included in the incorporated town’s borders, and in May 1956 the incorporation was approved by voters. The town was renamed Reece City at this time.

The town later built a city hall, established a water system, and contracted to provide gas through Alabama Gas Corporation, and also established a volunteer fire department.
