Blue Springs State Park

Blue Springs State Park Blue Springs State Park is located in the town of Blue Springs, six miles east of Clio in southeast Barbour County. At 103 acres, Blue Springs is one of Alabama’s smaller state parks. The state purchased the land in 1963 from the landowner J. D. McLaughlin and over the next three years began to develop the park. The main attraction at the park is the swimming facility, which is fed by a natural underground spring that pumps 3,600 gallons of water per minute into a pair of concrete-ringed pools. The pools are surrounded by broad grassy slopes where swimmers and picnickers can enjoy the sun and water. The temperature of the water is a constant 68 degrees year round, allowing swimmers to cool off on hot summer days. The park does not have lifeguards on duty. Picnic tables and grills are located near the spring area and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Four picnic pavilions also are available for rent for large gatherings. Other facilities include a playground, a volleyball court, a softball field, and a soccer field. A small pond is stocked with catfish and bream for anglers.

The park has a modern campground with 50 campsites; each site has a picnic table and grill. Seven sites have recreational vehicle sewer hookups. There are also primitive campsites for tent campers. Full-service recreational vehicles are available for rent as well.
