Allgood

Allgood is located in southeast Blount County in the north-central part of the state. It has a mayor/city council form of government.

History

Allgood initially was named Chepultepec. In December 1915, the owner of the Cheney Lime Company persuaded the postmaster to change the name to Allgood after himself because Cheney believed he was not getting repeat business from his customers because many of them could not spell the name of the town, Allgood was incorporated in 1959. The town installed a water system after incorporation and built tennis courts.

Demographics

According to 2020 Census estimates, Allgood recorded a population of 796. Of that number, 65.8 percent of respondents identified themselves as white, 63.2 percent as Hispanic, and 4.0 percent as two or more races. The town’s median household income was $47,898, and the per capita income was $19,101.

According to 2020 Census estimates, the workforce in Allgood was divided among the following industrial categories:

  • Educational services and health care and social assistance (26.3 percent)
  • Construction (23.6 percent)
  • Manufacturing (13.5 percent)
  • Other services, except public administration (8.5 percent)
  • Professional, scientific, and management, and administrative and waste management services (7.3 percent)
  • Retail trade (7.3 percent)
  • Agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting, and extraction (6.6 percent)
  • Arts, entertainment, and recreation, and accommodation and food services (3.9 percent)
  • Public administration (1.5 percent)
  • Information (0.8 percent)
  • Transportation and warehousing, and utilities (0.8 percent)

Education

Students in Allgood attend Blount County schools; no public schools are located in town.

Transportation

State Highway 75 runs roughly north-south through town, and County Road 1 runs northwest from town.
