Gustav Hasford

Gustav Hasford (1947-1993) of Haleyville, Winston County, served in the Marines during the Vietnam War. He later wrote The Short Timers and The Phantom Blooper based on his experiences, and co-wrote the screenplay to Stanley Kubrick's 1987 film Full Metal Jacket, adapted from The Short Timers.
