The Making Tires in Alabama display at the Museum of East Alabama in Opelika, Lee County, illustrates the region's importance to the automobile tire industry during the mid to late twentieth century. The space shuttle tire in the center was made at the Uniroyal Goodrich Tire Plant in Opelika.
