Maria Fearing

Maria Fearing (1838-1937), although born into slavery in antebellum Alabama, went on to become an educator in Calhoun and Talladega counties and then at the age of 56 a Presbyterian missionary in the African Congo during one of its most turbulent periods. She served as a missionary until she was 77.
