Arthur Alexander

Florence native Arthur Alexander (1940-1993) was a pivotal figure in the early country-soul genre, crafting many songs that later influenced mainstream musicians. His songs were covered by the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, George Jones and others. Alexander attempted to make a comeback in the early 1990s but suffered a fatal heart attack in June 1993.
