Edmund W. Rucker (1835-1924) served in the Confederate Army under Gen. Nathan B. Forrest during the Civil War and later became a successful Birmingham industrialist. Fort Rucker, in Coffee and Dale Counties, was named in his honor. The fort was renamed in 2023 for Medal of Honor winner Michael J. Novosel Sr., a native of Enterprise.
