Tuscaloosa native Charles W. Steele Jr. (1946- ) was the president and CEO of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) from 2004 to early 2009. Steele served in the Alabama state legislature and was a member of the International States Parliament for Safety and Peace before assuming leadership of the SCLC.
