Casting Area at Sloss Furnaces

The casting area for pig iron production at Sloss Furnaces in Birmingham. Molten iron flowed from the base of the blast furnace down the trenches in the center of the room, then branched into the channels on either side, filling molds formed in the floor where it cooled and hardened into bars of iron.
