Through the Years by Amelia Boynton Robinson

 Through the Years is a musical drama written by civil rights leader Amelia Boynton Robinson in 1936 as a means to raise funds for a community center for African Americans in Selma, Dallas County. The story's protagonist, Joshua Terrell, rises from slavery in the South to become a U.S. Congressman.
