Watercress Darter

The endemic watercress darter (Etheostoma nuchale) is restricted to several spring-fed streams in the Birmingham area and is typically associated with dense occurrences of watercress. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service listed this species as endangered because its unique habitat is threatened by runoff from surrounding commercial and residential development.
