Smallmouth Bass

The smallmouth bass (Micropterus dolomieui) occurs in Alabama in the Tennessee River system. The tailwater area below Wheeler Lock and Dam provides some of the best smallmouth bass fishing in North America. Attempts to introduce smallmouth bass into rivers south of the Tennessee River have generally failed because these fishes require cool water to thrive and spawn.
