Arthur Shores

Jefferson County native Arthur Davis Shores was a civil rights attorney best known for representing Autherine Lucy during her fight to gain admission to the University of Alabama in 1955. Shores also served as Birmingham's first black city council member, and he practiced civil rights law until his death in 1996.
