William Tecumseh Sherman

William Tecumseh Sherman (1820-1891) was a general in the Union Army during the American Civil War, known for his brilliant military strategy and ruthless "scorched earth" tactics against Confederate forces. Sherman was named Commanding General of the U.S. Army by President Ulysses S. Grant in 1869.
