John Gill Shorter

John Gill Shorter was Alabama's governor from 1861 to 1863, during the Civil War. Shorter was a Democrat who represented Barbour County in the state legislature prior to his governorship. He was a member of the "Eufaula Regency" group that was central in the Alabama push for secession.
