Boll Weevil

The boll weevil (Anthonomus grandis) devastated the cotton industry in the South during the first half of the twentieth century. Adults feed on the immature cotton bolls; larvae, deposited as eggs inside the boll, do even more damage as they feed their way around the developing bolls.
