Snapping Turtle

The snapping turtle (Chelydra serpentina) is found throughout Alabama in shallow ponds, lakes, and streams. The word "serpentina" in its name refers to the turtle's long, snakelike neck. These turtles are extremely aggressive and can inflict bites capable of severing a finger.
