American Alligator

The American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis), the only crocodilian found in Alabama, generally inhabits the freshwater coastal plains, including the Mobile-Tensaw Delta. The alligator's ability to tolerate some cold has allowed it to expand its range into the interior of the state.
