Cudjo Lewis
After the founding of African Town (now Africatown) north of Mobile, following emancipation in 1865, Cudjo and Abile Lewis had six children. The children all died before their parents and Abile Lewis passed away in 1908. Cudjo Lewis lived to be about 94 years old. Pictured here are his great-granddaughters, twins Mary and Martha, born in 1923.
