H. L. Hunley
The H. L. Hunley was the first submarine to sink an enemy ship, exploding a fixed torpedo against the hull of the USS Housatonic off the coast of South Carolina during the Civil War in February 1864. The vessel was designed and tested in Mobile before it was shipped east for battle.
