Gee's Bend Ferry

The Gee's Bend Ferry returned to service September 18, 2006, after being shut down for more than 40 years. In 1962 Wilcox County officials discontinued the service—which delivered Gee's Bend residents across the Alabama River to Camden, the Wilcox County seat—an action seen by many as an attempt to keep African Americans from voting.
