St. Clair County Courthouse in Pell City

Pell City actually is one of two county seats in St. Clair County, sharing that distinction with Ashville. Pell City was made the second county seat in 1907 because it was difficult for citizens of the southern half of the county to travel over mountainous terrain and poor roads to Ashville in the northern part of the county. Both seats handle county business, but the county commission meets in Ashville.
