Old Cahawba

Old Cahawha, in central Dallas County, was the first state capital of Alabama from 1820-1826. After the Civil War the town was largely abandoned. Today, the ruins are valued for their archeological and historical significance. The Alabama Historical Commission has begun efforts to establish an interpretive park at the site.
