Arch Ferrell, Si Garrett, and Ralph Mathews

From left, Arch Ferrell, Si Garrett, and Ralph Mathews, three opponents of Patterson's efforts to clean up organized crime in Phenix City, were initially implicated in his murder. Ferrell was the Russell County circuit solicitor, Garrett was Alabama Attorney General, and Mathews was the Russell County sheriff. Ferrell was acquitted of involvement in Patterson's murder, and charges were never brought against Garrett.
