Camp McClellan (now Fort McClellan) near Anniston was established in Calhoun County in 1917 to train U.S. troops for World
War I. The facility's name was changed to Fort McClellan in 1929. The Anniston Army Depot was added in 1940, and was the training
ground for about 500,000 U.S. soldiers for World War II.
