Millard Fillmore (1800-1874) was the 13th president of the United States and the last member of the Whig party to lead the
nation. He was vice president leading up to the Compromise of 1850, and, after President Zachary Taylor died, was president
from 1850-53 as the slavery issue further divided the country and the Fugitive Slave Act worsened the plight of African Americans.
