Execution of Heinrich Hartmann Wirz

Captain Heinrich Hartmann Wirz, the Confederate commander of Andersonville Prison in Americus, Georgia, was executed at the Washington Penitentiary in Washington, D.C., in November 1865, for his part in the deaths of nearly 13,000 Union prisoners.
