Barbecue, Alabama Style Gallery

Barbecue, the art of slow-cooking meat basted in sauce, is a rich southern tradition that has spawned many long-running restaurants in Alabama. Pork is the most commonly barbecued meat in Alabama, either chipped, chopped, or sliced, and often is served on a hamburger bun with coleslaw and pickles. Vinegar-based barbecue sauces are popular in northern areas of the state, and tomato-based sauces are more commonly found to the south.
