The Dragon Painter Cover

The Dragon Painter (1906) was the third novel by Mobilian Mary McNeil Fenollosa and the second set in Japan. Almost all of her novels were published under the pseudonym Sidney McCall. Fenollosa lived for many years in Japan with her first husband and then again with her second husband, Ernest Fenollosa, who was appointed the official arts commissioner to the Japanese emperor in 1897. She lived in New York and Boston as well, and her fiction and poetry reflects her cosmopolitan view of humanity, unlike the typical sentimental writing by women in the early twentieth century.
