The Marion Three

The so-called Marion Three—Albert Turner (left), Spencer Hogue Jr. (center), and Evelyn Turner (right)— stand in front of a redistricting map of Greene County. The three voting rights activists were prosecuted by future Alabama senator Jeff Sessions for allegedly submitting illegally completed absentee ballots. All three were acquitted of all charges by a federal jury at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Alabama in Mobile, Mobile County, on July 5, 1985.
