Klein-Wallace Home

The Klein-Wallace Home in Harpersville, Shelby County, was constructed around 1841 by Samuel Wallace, who emigrated from Virginia in 1832 and settled on a federal land grant. Wallace established a successful cotton plantation business worked by a number of enslaved people, who built the home and outbuildings on property at the time located in a community known as Klein. The property is managed by the Klein Arts and Culture nonprofit, founded and run by a descendant of Samuel Wallace. In 2018, the site hosted a reunion of descendants from the Wallace family as well as of the enslaved people who originally lived there. It was added to the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage in 1978.
