Historic Oakleigh is a historic house museum built circa 1833 in Mobile, Mobile County. The Greek Revival home was built by James Roper, a merchant and brick mason who relocated to Alabama from Virginia. It is part of a complex of buildings that include the 1850 Cox-Deasy Cottage, the 1867 Union Barracks, also known as the Cook's House, and the Minnie Mitchell Archives, which include maps, newspapers, scrapbooks, Mardi Gras materials, and other special collections. The complex is open Friday through Monday for guided tours, with interpretation about the grounds and their connection to the cotton economy, slavery, railroads, epidemics, and the Civil War.
