W. S. Harlan School

W. S. Harlan Elementary School is a public school outside Andalusia, Covington County. Founded in 1903 as the school for the mill town of Lockhart, it was built to serve the children of the employees of the Jackson Lumber Company. It is the oldest active school in Covington County and was named in honor of the mill's manager, William S. Harlan. In 2018, Alabama governor Kay Ivey declared the school an official Bicentennial School.
