First Baptist Church

The Gothic Revival First Baptist Church was founded in Selma in 1894 as the First Colored Baptist Church. The congregation played a significant role in the civil rights movement, hosting early meetings of the Dallas County Voters League and activist training sessions for the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
