Blocton Coal Mine

The town of Blocton, in Bibb County, was a mining community that arose around coal mines and Oxmoor Furnace, which produced pig iron. It was established by the Cahaba Coal Mining Company and named for a large block of coal that was removed from the nearby mine. The town officially ceased to exist and was absorbed into the nearby town of West Blocton.
