, in 1838. He edited a newspaper there for six years, served in the Alabama
House of Representatives
prior to and after the
Civil War
, and operated a successful law practice with Congressman
Ariosto A. Wiley
and former
governor
Thomas Goode Jones
. He served as the Chief Justice of the
Alabama Supreme Court
from 1856-59.
