Samuel F. Rice

Samuel F. Rice (1816-1890) was a politician and jurist who relocated from South Carolina and settled in Talladega, Talladega County, in 1838. He edited a newspaper there for six years, served in the Alabama House of Representatives prior to and after the Civil War, and operated a successful law practice with Congressman Ariosto A. Wiley and former governor Thomas Goode Jones. He served as the Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court from 1856-59.
