Alabama Tornado History

This chart from the National Weather Service depicts the frequency and types of tornadoes that have occurred in Alabama by month from 1950 to 2015. Much of Alabama is located in the so-called "Dixie Alley," an area of the Southeast that is highly prone to tornadoes. As indicated by the chart, April is the most severe month by far, with 464 separate tornadoes occurring and the most EF5 tornadoes, the most destructive category on the Enhanced Fujita (EF) scale.
