Croton Reservoir, New York

In the early 1830s, civil engineer Albert Stein (1785-1874) consulted on the waterworks that would encompass the Croton Distributing Reservoir in Manhattan. The reservoir was demolished in the 1890s, and the site is now occupied by the main branch of the New York Public Library and Bryant Park. Stein resided in Spring Hill near Mobile, Mobile County, for some 30 years until his death in 1874.
