Jonathan M. Daniels Monument

This monument to the memory of civil rights figure Jonathan Myrick Daniels was erected in 1991 in the town square of Hayneville, Lowndes County. Daniels was an Episcopal seminarian and civil rights activist killed in a Hayneville store in August 1965, after staging a protest at Fort Deposit. His death helped draw national attention to the civil rights struggles in the South.
