Theodore O'Hara

Poet and journalist Theodore O'Hara (1820-1867) is best known as the author of the poem "The Bivouac of the Dead," which originally honored soldiers who fell during the Mexican War, in which he served from 1846-48. The poem has since been used to honor the fallen of subsequent wars. During the late 1850s O'Hara was editor of the Mobile Register .
