Tennessee Valley Authority Chemical Plant, 1942

A worker stokes an electric phosphate smelting furnace at a Tennessee Valley Authority chemical plant in the Muscle Shoals area in 1942. The nitrate plants built by the U.S. government during World War I were later refitted to produce commercial fertilizers.
