Tennessee Coal, Iron, and Railroad Company
(TCI) built a
steel
works in the Ensley community west of downtown
Birmingham
during the late 1880s. Operations in Ensley were closed down in 1980 after the company consolidated its manufacturing to
Fairfield
.
