Emma Sansom Statue

In 1906, the Gadsden chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy erected a 21-foot-tall monument to honor Emma Sansom's assistance to Confederate troops during the Civil War. Sansom is credited with assisting in the capture of Union colonel Abel D. Streight and his raiders near the city in May 1863. The monument base was fabricated by the McNeal Marble Company of Georgia, and the statue and reliefs on the base were made by a sculptor in Italy.
