Chambers County native Dave Butz (1950-2022) was a much-lauded defensive tackle in the National Football League. During his tenure with the Washington Redskins (now the Washington Commanders), he played in two Super Bowls and won two. A star college player at Purdue University, he was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2014.
