Shawmut Mill and Village

This aerial photo depicts the Shawmut Mill and surrounding village. Constructed in 1907 by the West Point Manufacturing Company, it was the first planned village established by the company. The circle provided community and recreational space for the residents. Shawmut was one of five core textile mills established in Alabama by the company. It was one of four mill villages that were consolidated into the present day city of Valley, Chambers County, in 1980.
