Bloody Sunday

A contingent of Alabama State Troopers, Dallas County Sheriff's deputies, and a deputized posse used batons and tear gas to beat back marchers at the Edmond Pettus Bridge on March 7, 1965, quickly publicized as "Bloody Sunday."
