Tuskegee Syphilis Subjects

The Tuskegee Syphilis Study was a study of untreated, late-stage, latent African American syphilis patients conducted by Tuskegee Institute and the Macon County and Alabama public health departments from 1932 to 1972. It replaced a successful program that had been documenting and treating syphilis in rural African American populations. The study is notorious for keeping its subjects in the dark about their participation in the experiment.
