Trafford

Trafford is located in northern Jefferson County and southern Blount County, in the central part of the state. The majority of the town lies in Jefferson County. It has a mayor/council form of government.
History
Trafford initially called itself Union City; it grew up along the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. Because another town in the state was already named Union City, town inhabitants changed it to Trafford after a prominent landowner in the area. The town was incorporated in 1948.
Demographics
Trafford's population according to the 2010 Census was 646. Of that number, 92.7 percent of respondents identified themselves as white, 6.2 percent as African American, 0.9 percent as Hispanic or Latino, 0.8 percent as two or more races, and 0.2 percent as Native American. The town's median household income, according to 2010 estimates, was $32,500, and the per capita income was $13,270.

· Retail trade (15.6 percent)
· Professional, scientific, management, and administrative and waste   management services (12.1 percent)
· Manufacturing (10.8 percent)
· Transportation and warehousing and utilities (10.8 percent)
· Other services, except public administration (7.4 percent)
· Educational services, and health care and social assistance (6.5   percent)
· Arts, entertainment, recreation, and accommodation and food services   (6.5 percent)
· Public administration (4.8 percent)
· Finance, insurance, and real estate, rental, and leasing (2.6 percent)
· Wholesale trade (1.7 percent)
Education
Students in Trafford attend Jefferson County schools; no public schools are located within the town limits.
Transportation
Local roads provide access to nearby Interstate Highway 65, five miles west of town, and State Highway 160, located five miles north of town. The Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport is located about 15 miles south of Trafford.
Events and Places of Interest
Trafford holds an annual Christmas Parade featuring floats and food.
