Trafford

Trafford is located in northern Jefferson County and southern Blount County, in the central part of the state. The majority of the town lies in Jefferson County. It has a mayor/council form of government.

History

Log Barn, Trafford Trafford initially called itself Union City; it grew up along the Louisville & Nashville Railroad. Because another town in the state was already named Union City, town inhabitants changed it to Trafford after a prominent landowner in the area. The town was incorporated in 1948.

Demographics

According to 2020 Census estimates, Trafford recorded a population of 530. Of that number, 84.7 percent of respondents identified themselves as white, 11.9 percent as African American, and 3.4 percent as two or more races. The town’s median household income was $26,154, and the per capita income was $15,039.

  • Finance and insurance, and real estate and rental and leasing (0.7 percent)

Education

Students in Trafford attend Jefferson County schools; no public schools are located within the town limits.

Transportation

Local roads provide access to nearby Interstate Highway 65, five miles west of town, and State Highway 160, located five miles north of town. The BirminghamShuttlesworth International Airport is located about 15 miles south of Trafford.

Events and Places of Interest

Trafford holds an annual Christmas Parade featuring floats and food.
